Our Mission
Australis Pool Covers have been manufacturing Australia’s Best Pool Covers for over 20 Years, using only the finest Pool Cover bubble made here in Victoria, Australia. We have also developed the Australia’s favourite Stationary and Fully Mobile Pool Cover Roller, whilst being the first to introduce a colour choice in our Roller Range
Our aim is to support the Small Family Businesses that make up the bulk of the Pool Industry. The Mums and Dads Business (like ourselves) that have an independent Pool Shop, a Mobile Pool Service Run, Pool Heating Business – those businesses that have been largely forgotten about by the Mass Producers of Covers who support the Franchise Networks and the large Hardware stores etc.
We recently introduced a 600 Micron Pool Cover Material to our range to support some of our Wholesalers looking for a competitive edge in the form of longer Warranties/ thicker material
Australis Pool Covers has built its brand and reputation by supporting our clients, through the highest quality products available, rock solid warranties and good old fashioned small family business service. If you’re looking for a supplier that actually cares about your business and supports your business. You’ve come to the right place.
F.A.Q by the End User
Supporting Subheading
The answer is Yes. Suction Cleaners, Robotic Cleaners and Pressure Cleaners are all fine to operate underneath the Pool Blanket.
The Flat side of the Pool Cover is the Top. Making it Bubble Side Down. The Pool cover material is designed this way to allow the UV rays to pass through the bubbles on the way down, bounce off the bottom of the pool and then get refracted on the curved bubble – hence trapping them in the water and warming the pool.
Plus the smooth surface on top makes it easier to clean.
There are 4 main types of Pool Covers
* Solar Blankets or Bubble Covers – Are easily the most popular, as they provide excellent reduction in Evaporation, Increase Heat Rentention, Increase Water Temperature, Reduce Chemical Loss, keep out the bulk of Leaves and Debris. This cover is Light to handle and easily adaptable with a Pool Cover Roller
* Leaf and Debris Covers – Are a Meshy type of material, that is custom sewn to be approximately 600mm wider than the surface area of the Pool. This type of cover is pinned down by a series of Removable Cleats and the tension strings are pulled tought to keep the bulk of the material off the water level, thus leaving the Leaf Litter on top dry and easily removable. This cover will provide a minor reduction in evaporation. No advantage for added Heat, nor Heat Retention. This cover can take a little longer to remove from the pool surrounds, and is therefore primarily used in the Cooler months of the year.
* Thermal Cover – This is a foam based material. Has excellent Heat retention and evaporation reduction properties. However, the Sun’s UV Rays are unable to penetrate the material and therefore is unable to heat the pool by itself (relies on an external heat source). The material is significantly heavier than a Solar Blanket making it slightly more difficult to handle. Thermal Covers are ideal for indoor heated pools and were designed with this application in mind.
* Rigid Cover – A rigid, slat like material, potentially capable of taking an adults weight. This type of cover generally runs along a set of tracks built into the shell of the pool, which can retract into a pit in the floor of the pool, which also stores the motor that propels it along the tracks. This type of Cover has all the same benefits of a Solar Blanket, however, a Far Greater Price tag.
The Mid Blue which has been the standard colour for Bubble Covers is considered the best. It strikes the right balance between Light Penetration (warming the water) and Heat Retention.
Clear Coloured Covers allow more Light Penentration into the water, but do not retain the heat very well.
Dark Coloured Covers do not allow a lot of Light Penetration, however, have better Heat Retention properties
As a general rule the thickness of the material makes very little difference to the performance of the cover. The thinner the material the more light energy it allows to pass into the water, however, a thicker material retains more of the heat in the pool. All in all it is about the same. A lot of the mass produced covers claim that a Solar pool cover will heat your pool between 2 Degrees Celsius and 8 Degrees Celsius. We suggest on average it is closer to approx 3 – 4 Degrees Celsius
The only real difference thickness of material has on your pool cover is the lifespan of the cover. The thicker the material, generally the longer it lasts – hence why the warranties get longer as the material gets thicker.
The only true and long lasting way of removing ducks and keeping them out of your pool is with a pool cover. That is because a pool cover changes the behaviour of the duck.
Your fenced off pool provides them with an idealic place to take a swim (in a clear body of water, which they can see through to the floor), have something to eat, go to the toilet and congregrate in a relatively safe environment. If we deny them access to the water, then they will seek out an alternative environment (likely your neighbours’ pool)
The straight answer is no. A Pool Cover is able to be manually ‘rolled’ up on the deck, provided you have the space. The considerations that need to had are – the material weighs approx 500 grams per square meter DRY. Once the material gets over about 15 kilograms (Dry), it starts to get a little cumbersome to move manually. Once it is rolled up, how are you going to move it from the pool edge? How are you going to store it? How are you going to get it back onto the pool? Our general rule of thumb is any pool greater than 6m x 3m, probably needs a Pool Cover Roller.
Yes they are! They need to be!
Generally Pool Cover material has a chemical built into the plastic to protect against the chlorine, however, it is susceptible to high temperatures.
The Australian made materials are formulated for our Harsher environmental conditions. We have used European and Asian produced Pool Cover material briefly in the past – but the longevity of the product just isn’t there – loads of Warranty’s.
Our material is produced by Australia’s Premier supplier of Bubble Products – Sealed Air Australia, out of their Victorian Factory.
From the Raw Bubble we then produce the Pool Cover itself in our facility on the Central Coast, NSW.
It is known that the Average swimming pool in Sydney and Brisbane will lose approximately their entire contents of water every year through evaporation. This increases to 150% of the contents of water for Melbourne based pools.
It is also known that a slight breeze will increase the evaporative rate by nearly double. So those pools closer to the coast line, who receive that coastal breeze, generally have a higher evaporative rate.
Yes it will. By how much varies. A realistic expectation on temperature increase is approx 3 – 4 degrees on average.
Absolutely. Not only will a Pool Cover generate its own temperature for the pool, anywhere from 2 – 8 Degrees Celsius. It will also retain the heat that is currently in the pool. A good analogy is its like boiling water on a stove top, the water boils so much faster when the lid is on the pot.
From your pools perspective, we generate the heat during the day increasing the temperature of the pool. If your equipment turns off over night, so will your heater and then the temperature in the pool starts to drop. We may lose all of that temperature overnight. The cover will retain the vast majority of that warmth, meaning the water temperature starts at a higher low.
But how much money does that represent?
For a 20,000L pool heated Year round – the approximate energy saving is $600
For a 40,000L pool heated Year round – the approximate energy saving is $1200
For a 60,000L pool heated Year round – the approximate energy saving is $1800
